The Stalin Museum in Hora will spend 109.5 thousand. lari (about 39,000 dollars) for the restoration of the house where the Soviet dictator was born. The state procurement agency has announced a tender, reports UNN with a link to the Mtavari TV channel.

According to the media, this house is the main exhibit of the museum. Here, the future “leader of the nations” spent the first years of his life, when, of course, he was not yet planning mass repressions. However, the building remains a valuable artifact of studying the history of the Stalin family, around the origin of which there are still hypotheses and disputes.

According to the terms of the tender, the contractor must update the roof, floor, electrical wiring, doors, windows and memorial plaques. The works must be completed within 11 days after signing the contract.

The media notes that the Stalin Museum in Gora offers a unique but controversial view of the Soviet leader. The exposition covers his journey from birth to death, but is often criticized for embellishing the dictator’s image and glossing over the regime’s crimes. There is a debate in Georgia about how the museum should present history and how it affects visitors’ perception of Stalin.

Let’s add

Today, there are few of his fans left in Georgia, mainly among the far-right, who participate in anti-Western actions, burn EU flags and demand rapprochement with Russia. Even 10-15 years ago, there were noticeably more Stalinists – the dictator’s elderly supporters gathered annually in Gori to celebrate his role in the industrialization of the USSR and victory in the Second World War.

But in Stalin’s hometown, the attitude towards him remains ambiguous. Busts and monuments erected by local communists after 2010 were regularly defaced by activists, painting them in bright colors.

According to the “Caucasus Barometer 2024” study, almost 50% of the Georgian population has a negative attitude towards Stalin.
