An investigation has been launched into the shooting of Ukrainian prisoners of war by the enemy in the Donetsk region, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported on Thursday, writes UNN.

Under the procedural leadership of the General Prosecutor’s Office, a pre-trial investigation was started in criminal proceedings for the commission of a war crime that caused the death of people (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). According to preliminary data, during the assault on the positions of the Ukrainian troops in Donetsk region, the occupiers captured six servicemen of the Defense Forces of Ukraine and subsequently shot them

The department stated that the shooting of prisoners of war is a serious violation of the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War and is classified as a serious international crime.

“Currently, investigative actions aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the crime and the persons involved in its commission are being carried out,” the message reads.
