The law enforcement officers established that “the head of the enemy cell was an active engineer of the Kyiv Metropoliten utility company.”
According to the case file, “the official was recruited in 2015 in Moscow during a personal meeting with a staff member of the FSB. His identity has already been established by cyber specialists of the Security Service.”
The SBU says that the recruited agent was put on “standby mode” and “uncanned” after the start of a full-scale war through a messenger message.
“He was immediately instructed to create an agent network. The task of this group was to collect information about the locations of bases and routes of movement of Ukrainian troops and their cargo, as well as to target them with rocket and drone attacks by the Rashists,” the SBU said.
As it turned out, according to the SBU, “the resident involved his acquaintances in working for the enemy”:
- a native of Kharkiv, who left the military unit after mobilization, and before that worked for “Ukrzaliznytsia” for 10 years,
- driver of international road transport.
“The deserter’s task was to monitor the movement of military echelons of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the driver – under the guise of work trips – to merge the coordinates of roadblocks and units of the Defense Forces. In addition, it was established that the suspect’s brother and mother were involved in the activities of the agent group,” the SBU said in a statement.
According to the investigation, “the resident personally launched missile strikes on Kyiv, which is confirmed by his intercepted conversations.”
“During the searches, mobile phones with evidence of work in the Russian Federation were seized from the suspects. A firearm was also found, which was handed over for examination. The investigators of the Security Service informed the two detainees and two relatives of the leader of the enemy cell about the suspicion in accordance with the committed crimes,” the agency said.
The SBU also clarified that “criminals face from 8 years of imprisonment to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.”
In October 2024, the Security Service and the National Police announced the prevention of a terrorist attack in Kyiv planned by the military intelligence of the Russian Federation. The law enforcement officers reported the arrest of two Russian agents who were supposed to prepare an improvised explosive device and detonate it in one of the crowded places of Kyiv.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the State Bureau of Investigation has investigated 2,399 criminal proceedings regarding crimes against the national security of the state, including 1,746 cases of treason (Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
