As a result of pre-emptive actions, an agent of Russian military intelligence (known as a game) was detained, who was preparing to blow up a main gas pipeline in the east of Ukraine.
As the investigation established, the agent had to plant an improvised explosive device (IED) near the nodal section of the gas lines that provide heating to both regions.
According to the case file, the perpetrator of the crime was an unemployed resident of Kharkiv, who came into the eyes of the occupiers when he wrote anti-Ukrainian comments on Telegram channels.
There he was attacked by a fighter of the so-called “special forces of the DNR”, which fights against Ukraine on the eastern front and cooperates with the Russian army.
“According to his instructions, the agent purchased components for explosives and made his own SVP. For the conspiracy, he set up an underground “workshop” in his parents’ house in the Berestyn district of Kharkiv region,” the SBU explained.
SBU counter-intelligence documented the agent’s subversive activities step by step and detained him at the final stage of assembling the bomb.
During the searches, an equipped SVP, as well as a smartphone with evidence of working for the enemy, were seized from the detainee.
On the basis of the collected evidence, the investigators of the Security Service notified the suspect of suspicion under Part 1 of Art. 14, part 2 of Art. 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (preparation to commit a terrorist act by prior conspiracy by a group of persons).
The issue of additional qualification of his actions based on the fact of treason committed under martial law is being resolved.
The perpetrator is in custody without bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
