The Russian supermarket chain “Magnit” is considering the possibility of opening its stores in the occupied territories of Ukraine – in the Zaporizhia, Kherson, Luhansk and Donetsk regions, Kommersant writes with reference to sources in the food retail industry.

Magnit itself did not deny this information, but stated that in 2026, the main plans to expand the geography of the network’s presence will be focused on the regions of Eastern Siberia and the Far East.

According to one of the sources of the economic publication, “Magnit” may already have a counterparty in the occupied territories. According to him, the company supplies part of its products to the “Your Shop” network, which operates in Donetsk, Mariupol and Luhansk. “Magnit” did not comment on this information.

The format of cooperation between “Magnit” and “Tvoi Magazin”, the publication’s source noted, can be considered as one of the possible test scenarios of the network’s operation in the occupied territories.

“Magnit” is one of the largest chains of grocery stores in Russia. The company was founded in the 1990s by Serhiy Halytskyi. He developed and managed Magnit until 2018, and then sold his stake. As of the beginning of 2026, the main owner of “Magnit” is the Marathon Group investment company of Oleksandr Vynokurov and Sergey Zakharov. “Magnit” has more than 30,000 stores in Russia.
