The Russian Government proposes to strengthen the punishment for HCR and desertion for former prisoners

In Russia, the Government Commission on Law has approved amendments to impose a punishment for released prisoners who signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense, but decided not to fight. This was reported by RBC and TASS agencies with reference to sources aware of the materials of the meeting.

The Russian government proposes to punish prisoners for failure to appear to the place of service in the period from 2 to 10 days by repeated imprisonment for a term of 2 to 6 years, for the absence of a lasting period of 10 to 30 days – for a period of 3 to 8 years.

Also, for desertion with weapons or a group of persons, it is proposed to give a period of 10 to 12 years, for the simulation of the disease and falsification of documents in order to stop the service – from 7 to 12 years.

The current versions of the articles of the Russian Criminal Code (on the unauthorized leaving of the part, desertion and simulation of the disease) do not provide for separate punishment for the military who have entered the army from the colonies or pre -trial detention center, they are judged as ordinary contracts or mobilized.

Now for leaving the place of service up to 10 days a sentence of up to 5 years of colony is envisaged, for a period of 10 to 30 days – up to 7 years of colony, more than one month – up to 10 years.

For desertion during the war, the punishment ranges from 5 to 15 years of colony, for the simulation of the disease for the purpose of evasion of service – from 5 to 10 years.
