Russia lost about 978,700 of its soldiers during a full -scale invasion of Ukraine, in particular, 1050 – in the last day – such data as of the morning of May 23, provided the Ukrainian General Staff.

Russia does not officially disclose its losses. Moscow last called the number of killed in September 2022 – then declared 5937 dead. On March 5, intelligence of the United Kingdom said that, since the beginning of 2025, Russia probably lost about 90,000 soldiers killed and wounded in the war against Ukraine.

Kyiv also did not voice losses for a long time, stating that the data would be disclosed after the war. At the same time, on February 16, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with NBC News that since February 2022, Ukraine lost more than 46,000 soldiers and about 380,000 in the war.
