Russia is trying to damage Ukrainian nuclear power plants, as evidenced by intelligence data on Moscow’s preparations for future attacks.

In his evening address on January 18, 2026, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi emphasized that the Ukrainian side has information about specific objects that Russia was scouting for the next strikes.

The head of state noted that the Ukrainian delegation has already provided its partners in the USA with comprehensive data on energy terror and systematic shelling by Russia against the country’s critical infrastructure. According to the President, these actions are a clear proof that the diplomatic settlement of the conflict is not a priority for the Kremlin, which instead chooses the path of escalation and creating the threat of a nuclear catastrophe.

Over the past week, Russia has focused its attacks not only on power grids, but also on Naftogaz facilities in various regions of Ukraine, in particular, the latest attack was made on a gas production facility the day before. Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that if Russia really wanted to end the war, it would have stopped missile attacks and attempts to cause blackouts. Instead, Russia continues to invest resources in preparing strikes that could have catastrophic consequences for the entire European continent. Ukraine continues to inform the world community about every step of the aggressor, emphasizing the need to increase sanctions pressure so that Russia cannot implement its plans to destroy the Ukrainian energy industry.

Moscow knows no bounds in its goal to deprive Ukrainians of electricity during the frosty winter. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called on the international community and the IAEA to force Russia to abandon its plans to attack substations that feed Ukraine’s nuclear power plants.

Russian troops are considering options for new attacks on Ukraine, in particular on substations of nuclear power plants. This was reported in the Main Directorate of Intelligence. According to the GUR, such strikes may be aimed at a large-scale disruption of energy supply and creating a critical situation in the country. The Kremlin plans to attack the substations that support the operation of Ukrainian nuclear power plants.
