Motovilikhinsk Zavody, LAAZ, AvtoVAZ, Mikron, Poshta-Bank, Mykhailo Frunze Nizhny Novgorod Research and Production Association, and Novotroitsk Plant of Chromium Compounds were also sanctioned by the US.
Restrictions also apply to companies from China, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey.
On January 15, the US Treasury expanded the list of sanctions against Russia. More than 200 legal entities, including “UMK-Stal”, the “Patriot” exhibition center and “Voyentorg”, were subject to restrictions. Personal sanctions have been imposed on 16 individuals – mostly businessmen connected with sanctioned enterprises.
Zaporizhzhia NPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. Russian troops occupied the city of Energodar and the nearby Zaporizhzhya NPP at the beginning of March 2022.
In October 2022, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, instructed the Russian government to take into federal ownership the objects of the Zaporizhia NPP, which is located on the territory of Ukraine occupied by Russian troops. He also ordered the creation of the enterprise “Zaporizhka NPP” for the purpose of “ensuring the safety of the objects of the use of atomic energy of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.”
Ukraine condemned this move and called for the introduction of sanctions against the Russian state corporation Rosatom.
