OVA stressed that due to Russian attacks, the region’s energy system is operating in a tense mode, consumers are asked to reduce electricity consumption, especially during peak hours.
According to the administration, on the night of September 18, 16 Russian Shaheds were destroyed by the air defense forces of Sumy Oblast.
“At night and in the morning, the Russians carried out 37 shellings of the border territories and settlements of the Sumy region. 57 explosions were recorded. The communities of Sumy, Mykolayiv, Khotyn, Yunakiv, Bilopol, Krasnopil, Velikopysariv, Putivl, and Shalygin came under fire,” the OVA added. No casualties have been reported.
Late in the evening of September 16, the Russian military, using UAVs of the “Shakhed” type, struck the Sumy region – the city of Konotop and the regional center, the regional military administration reported.
Subsequently, OVA reported that Russian drones attacked the energy system facilities in Sumy Oblast on the night of September 17. Due to the mass attack of the Russian Federation, settlements of Konotop, Okhtyr and Sumy districts were affected. Due to the strikes, there was no electricity or water in Sumy.
The leadership of Russia denies that the Russian army during a full-scale war inflicts targeted strikes on the civilian infrastructure of the cities and villages of Ukraine, killing the civilian population and destroying hospitals, schools, kindergartens, energy and water supply facilities.
The Ukrainian authorities and international organizations qualify these strikes as war crimes by the Russian Federation and emphasize that they are purposeful in nature.
