The Security Service of Ukraine stopped a large-scale sabotage planned by the Russian GRU agent network. A resident of Rivne, recruited by the aggressor, was preparing to blow up railway tracks and disrupt the supply of ammunition to the Armed Forces. He writes about it UNN with reference to the SBU.

Details

Counter-intelligence of the SBU stopped large-scale sabotage at the facilities of Ukrzaliznytsia, exposing the agent network of the Russian GRU. The special operation made it possible to neutralize a terrorist threat aimed at undermining railway tracks through which weapons and equipment are supplied to the Armed Forces.

One of the persons involved in the case was a resident of Rivne, who worked for the 316th intelligence center of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (GRU), located in Crimea. He was preparing to commit sabotage by making a self-made braking “shoe”, which was supposed to cause the echelon with ammunition for the Armed Forces to derail.

To capture the crime, the agent installed multiple cameras disguised as bird nests to capture real-time footage. The attacker acted as part of an agent network, which included two more people who are currently hiding in Crimea. The organizer of the network turned out to be 43-year-old Roman Yakymchuk, and the “liaison” who sought out and assigned tasks to the agent was Oleksandr Ignatiev, a former employee of the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine.

Yakymchuk and Ignatiev turned to the GRU of the Russian Federation with a request for funding in the amount of 100 thousand dollars, of which 40% was promised to the agent. The rest of the amount was planned to be distributed among themselves, hiding these actions from the leadership of Russian intelligence.

Thanks to the operational actions of the SBU, it was possible to timely detain the agent and document his activities. Yakymchuk and Ignatiev were charged in absentia, the agent is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The extras in the case are accused of several serious crimes. In particular, they are charged with treason committed under martial law (Part 2 of Article 111), which involves cooperation with an enemy state with the aim of harming the national security of Ukraine. In addition, they are accused of preparing and inciting sabotage under martial law (Part 1 of Article 14, Part 4 of Article 27, Part 2 of Article 113), which includes preparation for terrorist acts. Also, the conspirators are accused of illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives (Part 1 of Article 263).

The special operation was conducted by SBU employees in Kyiv and the Kyiv region under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
