The Verkhovna Rada supported the appointment of First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov as the new Minister of Defense.

Details: The corresponding decision in the Council was supported by 277 People’s Deputies.

A day before the vote, the Council Committee supported Fedorov’s candidacy and recommended voting for his appointment to the Ministry of Defense.

From the rostrum of the parliament, Fedorov said that the main security guarantee for Ukraine is its defense forces.

He admitted that there are currently a number of problems that prevent defenders from acting effectively: a “paper” army, the Soviet approach, excessive bureaucracy and failures in securing the front.

Fedorov also announced that he is planning a comprehensive audit of the TCC system: “Then we will offer a systemic solution to solve the problems accumulated over the years and at the same time preserve the defense capability of the country.”

Fedorov’s direct speech:Today, it is not possible to fight with the old organizational structure with new technologies. Complex changes are necessary.

Our goal is to change the system: reform the army, improve front-line infrastructure, root out lies and corruptionmake leadership and trust a new culture.”

Fedorov said that in the near future he plans to “in-depth audit of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces”to “find additional opportunities to improve the financial and social level of support for military personnel.”

He also said that his native town of Vasylivka in the Zaporizhzhia region is occupied: “Russian troops came to Vasylivka in the first days of the invasion… For the last 4 years, I have lived to de-occupy Vasylivka. That is why my story personal”.

What preceded: On January 2, Zelensky proposed to appoint First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov as the new Minister of Defense.

On January 5, Zelenskyi and Fedorov discussed the changes that he plans to implement in the position of Minister of Defense.

January 9 Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, announced that the parliament had received resignations from the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – the Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov.

January 13 The Verkhovna Rada supported the dismissal of Defense Minister Denys Shmygal, who is to be transferred to the position of Minister of Energy.
