Stubb is said to have planned to visit the United States on Monday and Tuesday. He was to take part in the presentation of the new Finnish fleet of F-35A multi-role fighters in Fort Worth, Texas, and in the opening of the Finnish consulate in Houston.
However, the Finnish president has changed his plans and will instead take part in European discussions regarding the peace process in Ukraine.
“On Monday, he will join negotiations in Berlin on a peaceful settlement of the Ukraine issue. Several other heads of state and government of European countries, as well as high-ranking representatives of the EU and NATO, will also take part in the conference,” his office said on Friday.
Peace talks in BerlinOn Friday, the press service of the German government announced that Chancellor Friedrich Merz will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi on Monday to discuss the current state of peace talks in Ukraine. European leaders and representatives of the European Union and NATO are expected to join the negotiations.
Later, the media reported that Trump’s special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would also arrive at the meeting.
