In Kyiv, the police, together with the SBU, detained two groups of firemen who set fire to military vehicles and railway relay cabinets, the capital police reported on January 15.

Each group consisted of two people – one included 17- and 19-year-old natives of Sumy Oblast and Kyiv Oblast, the other a 20-year-old native of Kyiv and a 26-year-old native of Luhansk Oblast. They received tasks from the Russian special services via messenger, law enforcement officers inform.

“Four intruders recruited by the enemy set fire to six military vehicles and a relay cabinet of Ukrzaliznytsia.” The perpetrators were informed of the suspicion and taken into custody. The executors of tasks from the aggressor country were left without the promised money. The maximum penalty for the articles he is charged with is life imprisonment,” the police said in a statement.

The detainees were informed of suspicion on three counts, including sabotage and arson.

On January 15, the Security Service of Ukraine announced the arrest of more than 450 arson suspects during 2024.

Earlier, RFE/RL’s investigative project “Schemy” revealed that Russian special services massively use minor Ukrainians to set fire to the cars of the Armed Forces and TCC buildings as part of the Russian Federation’s disinformation campaign, the purpose of which is to show that there is an active underground in Ukraine, which in this way opposes general mobilization.
