US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin will fly from Washington to Germany to participate in the 25th meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine, which will be held on January 9 at Ramstein Air Base. The Pentagon emphasized that this meeting will take place iconic”.

This is stated in the statement of the Pentagon.

From 2022, the Ramstein format will play a key role in coordinating international assistance to Ukraine in protecting its sovereignty from Russian aggression.

The main topics of the meeting:

Immediate needs of Ukraine on the battlefield: provision of air defense systems, artillery ammunition and armored vehicles.

Long-term tasks of the defense of Ukraine: discussion of plans for the creation of sustainable deterrent forces.

Strengthening the defense industry: coordination of coalition efforts to maintain the defense base.

Plan until 2027

At the meeting, Austin plans to gather the leaders of eight coalition groups to develop a strategy for strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities until 2027.

The US Defense Ministry noted that each Ramstein coalition covers separate aspects of Ukraine’s military potential and is led by two or more NATO countries.

The Ramstein format, initiated in April 2022, remains the most important platform for the interaction of partner countries united to provide long-term support to Ukraine.
