Details: According to the leader of the Conservative Party of Norway and former Prime Minister Erna Solberg, there is no alternative to increasing aid to Kyiv “if we want to do what is historically correct in the difficult situation in which Ukraine now finds itself.”
The conservatives want to present their proposal in an alternative budget project, which will be submitted to the parliament in a few weeks. It provides for the allocation of NOK 45 billion, or 40% of Norway’s defense budget for 2025, to help Ukraine
To prevent pressure on the Norwegian economy, the opposition proposes to invest these funds abroad, and most of the additional funding can go to support Ukraine’s defense industry.
Other proposals include support for Ukraine’s energy sector and construction of military infrastructure, including shelters to protect F-16 fighter jets from Russian strikes.
Last year, Norway approved the Nansen program worth NOK 75 billion, which provides for long-term support to Ukraine until 2027 – that is, with NOK 15 billion annually.
But this year, the country’s authorities proposed to increase the financing of the program to 135 billion euros and to extend it for another three years – until 2030.
