This figure is almost identical to December 2024, when an increase was 25 560. Last November, this figure was even higher – 36 010 people.
A total of 4.28 million people with temporary protection status in the EU are forced to leave Ukraine as a result of war. Of these, the vast majority – 98.4% – are citizens of Ukraine.
Most new beneficiaries of this status in January were registered in Germany (+8800 people) and the Czech Republic (+6360). Interestingly, the top three countries that provide temporary protection to Ukrainians have included Spain (+3050 people), displacing Poland.
At the same time, in some countries, the number of Ukrainians with temporary protection decreased. Thus, in Denmark, this figure decreased by 2245 people, in France – by 660, in Austria – by 420, and in Lithuania – by 155.
The reasons for this reduction may be related to the return of people to Ukraine or their relocation to other EU countries.
As of the beginning of 2025, the largest number of Ukrainians with temporary protection was adopted by Germany (1.17 million people, which is 27.3%of the total in the EU), Poland (993 015 or 23.2%) and Czech Republic (394 985 or 9.2%). These three countries remain the main areas for Ukrainians looking for war.
Regarding the demographic composition of temporary protection beneficiaries, almost half (44.8%) are adult women. Children make up a third (31.8%), and the share of adult men is only 23.4%.
Earlier, we have already wrote that in the United Kingdom, Ukrainians have already begun to refuse to extend the lease of housing, as the visa update process continues. Some of this reason reported that they would not be able to work.
Also, Ukrainians from collective placement centers in Poland can receive financial support for renting housing within the national program “Together to Independence”. This project involves covering the cost of renting an apartment for six months, as well as employment assistance.
