The new tactics of the Armed Forces reduce the combat capability of the Russian army: ISW analysis

The armed forces of Ukraine began to attack the tactical command posts and positions of the Russian army in the areas near the front line. Thus, the Defense Forces are trying to complicate the command and control of the Russian army on the battlefield. It is noted that the General Staff of Ukraine announced on January 12 that the Ukrainian military carried out a high-precision airstrike on the command post of the 2nd Combined Arms Army of Russia in the temporarily occupied Novogrodivka of the Donetsk region.

The General Staff of Ukraine noted that the operation is part of a wider series of Ukrainian attacks on the command posts of Russian troops operating in the Donetsk direction

On January 8, the Defense Forces of Ukraine struck the command post of the 8th Army Corps of the Southern Military District in occupied Khartsyzk. On January 10, they hit the command post of the 3rd Army Corps of the Central Military District in occupied Svitlodarsk.

Such strikes are likely aimed at undermining Russia’s broader logistics and operational planning efforts, which could affect Russia’s ability to conduct military operations in western Donetsk Oblast

“According to ISW observations, the 2nd Army Corps (AK) is currently leading Russian operations south of Pokrovsk, the 3rd AK is operating near Chasy Yar, and the 8th AK is leading Russian efforts near Kurakhovo,” the report said.

ISW Key Findings:

• On January 12, the General Staff of Ukraine announced that Ukrainian troops had carried out a high-precision airstrike on the command post of the 2nd Combined Arms Army (TsVO) of Russia in Novogrodivka, Donetsk region.
• South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) confirmed that Ukrainian forces captured two North Korean soldiers during hostilities in the Kursk region on January 9.
• Russian troops advanced in the Kupyansk, Toretsk, Pokrovsky and Kurakhovo directions.
