While winter sports resorts can be found all over the world, some destinations are more expensive than others when it comes to getting medical care for injuries.
Insurance company Aviva analyzed its claims data to identify the most common and costliest injuries during the winter sports season from December 2023 to April 2024, when most people will be skiing on the slopes of mountain resorts around the world, writes The Independent.
It said leg fractures became the most common injury this year, according to the insurer, surpassing dislocations, which were the most common in 2023, but are now only the third most common in 2024.
Leg fractures cost an average of $8,000 to treat, making them the second most expensive, while dislocations cost just over twice as much.
In second place are rib fractures, an injury that also came out on top as the most expensive injury to treat. This is more than double the average cost in 2023 and nearly double the cost of other common winter sports injuries, such as broken collarbones or sprains.
While winter sports resorts can be found all over the world, some destinations cost more than others when it comes to getting medical care for snow skiing injuries.
Canada has surpassed the United States as the most expensive country to treat winter sports injuries. Austria ranks third. At the other end of the table is Sweden, the cheapest country in the top ten.
Suzanne Kane, claims specialist at Aviva, said it’s vital to check your policy details to ensure you have the right cover for winter sports. She explained:
“That’s why it’s crucial to check your policy documents and make sure you have the right cover for your destination and planned activities. In many cases, you may want to opt for ‘winter sports cover’, which offers extra protection against things like theft or damage to ski equipment, trail closures and delays due to avalanches, in addition to medical treatment that can be prohibitively expensive in many countries, especially in the United States or Canada.”
News of tourismDespite the fact that in Thailand there are cities most crowded with tourists, it is in this country that visitors often feel like strangers.
This is according to a recent study by Ubuy based on key factors such as English proficiency, friendliness and safety. Some other indicators were also included in the study, such as annual international tourist arrivals and the number of emigrants.
