Ryabkov’s direct speech: “We cannot say anything today about the degree of negotiating ability of the incoming administration, but still: compared to the hopelessness in all aspects of the former owner of the White House (Joe Biden – ed.), today there is, albeit a small one, a window opportunities”.

Details: He added that now “it is important to understand what and who will have to deal with, how to better build relations with Washington, how to maximize opportunities, minimize risks.”

“Probably, we will observe the strengthening of intra-American misunderstandings and, probably, even clashes. How this situation will affect the contours of the foreign policy course of the United States is also a question that needs close attention,” said the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

He believes that the future period in Russian-American and international relations “will be associated not only with a significant number of challenges, but with an increased rate of change and a high degree of unpredictability and poor predictability.”

Prehistory:

  • US President Donald Trump has said he will consider imposing additional sanctions on Russia as its war against Ukraine approaches its third anniversary.
  • On the first day of his presidency, Donald Trump said that Putin is destroying Russia without ending the war.
  • Russian President Vladimir Putin, congratulating Trump on his inauguration as US president, declared that he was ready for a dialogue regarding the war he had unleashed against Ukraine, but at the same time continued to put forward an ultimatum demand – the complete surrender of Ukraine.
  • Volodymyr Zelensky, congratulating the new US president, emphasized that Trump’s “peace through strength” policy provides an opportunity to strengthen American leadership and “achieve a long-term and just peace.”
  • At the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 21, Zelenskyi emphasized that Ukraine seeks to end the murderous war unleashed by Russia, but not just quickly, but most importantly – fairly.
