Civilian energy infrastructure in the Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Sumy, Kharkiv and Kherson regions came under Russian fire during the past day, the press service of the Ministry of Energy reported on September 16.

“In the Donetsk region, as a result of shelling, power was cut off at substations, household consumers, local industry, as well as the railway (there were disturbances in the movement of trains). Power has been restored,” the ministry said.

In the Chernihiv region, the department added, as a result of the shelling, overhead lines were disconnected, 404 subscribers in four settlements were cut off. Power has been partially restored.

The Ministry of Energy reports that there are no planned power outages today. At the same time, the agency asks consumers to use electricity sparingly, especially during peak hours – from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

In the summer, Ukraine periodically operated hourly blackout schedules, the main reason for their use being the consequences of Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian power plants. According to Ukrenergo, the losses of the Ukrainian energy system exceed 9 GW of capacity, which is equivalent to the consumption during peak hours in the summer of the Netherlands or Finland.
