“The Ministry of Defense notes that the use of ammunition batches in the Defense Forces, as well as their issuance to combat units, is currently suspended”, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org
“The absence of comments in the public space does not mean that the Ministry of Defense is inactive or does not respond to information that comes from the military or appears, in particular, in the mass media. At the same time, the Ministry of Defense works in a closed perimeter to ensure maximum efficiency and security. After all, due to Russian aggression, information about the progress of the work is sensitive, so it remains with limited access,” the press service of the agency said in a statement.
The Ministry of Defense notes that the use of ammunition batches in the Defense Forces, as well as their issuance to combat units, is currently suspended until the cause of the malfunction is determined.
According to the department, the preliminary results of the investigation of the interdepartmental commission regarding the supply of low-quality 120-mm mortar mines indicate the possible causes of the defects, in particular, low-quality powder charges or violations of the conditions of ammunition storage, which led to their damage.
The State Bureau of Investigation has started criminal proceedings on this fact.
The ministry promises to approve “personnel decisions” regarding responsible officials based on the results of the interdepartmental commission.
Now, following the reports of the abnormal detonation of 120-mm mines, the Ministry of Defense is intensifying monitoring of ammunition storage conditions and improving inspection procedures at all stages: from production and storage to delivery to the front line.
The interdepartmental commission will also conduct an inspection of mortar mines of other calibers regarding compliance with production standards, the quality of components and their storage conditions, the department adds.
Military commentator Yuriy Butusov recently published fragments of the video, which, according to him, were sent to him by mortar fighters. These shots show how the mine, before it had time to fly out of the mortar, falls a few meters after the shot. The message of the publication “Censor.net” refers to the delivery of defective projectiles allegedly manufactured by “Ukroboronprom”.
