61 unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down on the night of January 5 over the territory of Russia, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported.

Of these, 37 UAVs were destroyed over the territory of the Rostov region, 20 over the Bryansk region, two over the Voronezh region, and one each over the Belgorod and Oryol regions, according to the summary.

During Sunday, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation informed first about the downing of five UAVs, and later two more drones over the territory of the Belgorod and Kursk regions.

The governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, reported that as a result of the drone attack, private and administrative buildings, as well as cars, were damaged. According to preliminary information, people were not injured.

The governor of the Rostov region Yuriy Slyusar also reported on the attack. According to the authorities, no people were injured there either.

In addition, the Telegram channels of the cities of Millerovo and Taganrog reported on the UAV attack.

In the morning, the reception and departure of planes was stopped at the Kazan airport. Rosaviatsia did not specify the reason for the restrictions, saying that they are necessary “to ensure the safety of aircraft.” Subsequently, “temporary restrictions” were also introduced at the airports of Nizhnekamsk, Izhevsk and Perm. Recently, similar restrictions are often introduced at airports in the event of a threat of drone attacks, the Russian service of Radio Liberty writes.

By mid-day, the flight restrictions were lifted.

The authorities of Ukraine during the full-scale Russian invasion usually rarely comment on the information of Russian officials about attacks on the regions of the Russian Federation.

On January 5, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, announced that in December 2024, operators of the Forces of Unmanned Systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine hit more than 54,000 targets of the Russian Federation. Almost half of this result – 49% – was provided by kamikaze drones.
