According to Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, January 22, 2026 was the most difficult day for Ukraine’s energy system since the blackout in November 2022 — that is, since the full-scale invasion of Russian terrorists.
Shmyhal published such a conclusion on his Telegram page.
“Today was the most difficult day for the energy system in Ukraine after the blackout in November 2022. He noted that the situation is extremely difficult. Energy companies are forced to continue to use emergency shutdowns.
NEC “Ukrenergo” was forced to apply special schedules of emergency shutdowns in order to preserve the integrity of the energy system. The most difficult situation is in Kyiv, Kyiv Oblast and Dnipro Oblast.
During the day, 165 crews worked on returning heat to the houses of Kyiv, 83 stand in for the night shift. The work is significantly complicated by security conditions – this evening in Kyiv, a 2000 air alarm sounded during martial law,” Shmyhal said.
