President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law that allows the military to independently decide who will receive payments if they go missing or are captured, reports UNN.

“Returned with the signature of the President of Ukraine,” says the card of the draft law.

According to the document, military servicemen who are captured or held hostage, as well as interned in neutral countries or missing in action, are to be paid cash support.

It is noted that the serviceman can himself determine the family members to whom payments will be made in case of disappearance or capture.

In the absence of a personal order, the financial support is paid to the wife/husband, parents of the soldier in equal shares, the total amount of which does not exceed 50% of the financial support determined after the deductions established by law.

Also, financial support can be paid to siblings.

In the event of the death (death) of a serviceman or his court declaring him dead, the sums of money support due to the serviceman and not paid to him are included in the inheritance.

However, the provisions of the law will not apply to military personnel who voluntarily surrendered, voluntarily left military units (places of service) or deserted from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, other military formations and law enforcement agencies formed in accordance with the laws of Ukraine.

We will remind

The Verkhovna Rada in the second reading and as a whole adopted the draft law, which provides for the release of military personnel from criminal liability for voluntary desertion and desertion, if it happened for the first time. However, in order to return to the service, it will be necessary to obtain written consent from the commander of the military unit.
