Representatives of the Border Police and the General Inspectorate for Migration of Romania cannot comment on the procedure for granting asylum to People’s Deputy of Ukraine Andrii Odarchenko, as it is a confidential process, the Romanian service of Radio Liberty reported on September 24.

The day before, during a session of the High Anti-Corruption Court (HCC), where a petition to change the preventive measure for Odarchenko was considered, it became known that he fled to Romania, where he applied for asylum.

On September 23, the High Anti-Corruption Court (HCC) arrested in absentia People’s Deputy from the “Servant of the People” Andrii Odarchenko, who is accused of offering a bribe to the head of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure of Ukraine, and collected UAH 15 million of the bail paid for him.

On September 19, VAKS asked to declare the deputy on the state and international wanted list, since he did not arrive at the court session.

According to preliminary data of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), Odarchenko crossed the border with Romania on September 17.

In November 2023, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine announced the exposure of a people’s deputy for an attempt to bribe a top official with bitcoins. It was about the representative of “Servant of the People” Andriy Odarchenko.

During one of the court hearings, Odarchenko denied that he had given a bribe to the head of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure, Mustafa Nayem. He admitted contacts with Nayem, but said that he allegedly asked to teach him how to use cryptocurrency. In addition, the deputy stated that the case against him may be evidence of “political or some other persecution.”

The court chose People’s Deputy Andrii Odarchenko a preventive measure in the form of detention for a period of two months with the possibility of a bail of 15 million hryvnias. He made a deposit.
