Details: In the draft resolution for the upcoming closed session of the CSU faction in the Bundestag, the deputies demand, among other things, the quick return of the majority of Syrian refugees to their country of origin.

The draft resolution provides that in 2026 a “large-scale deportation operation” should take place “with the help of regular flights, including to Syria and Afghanistan.”
The civil war in Syria is over, the country is recovering and receiving support from Germany. “At the same time, the grounds for protection no longer apply to the majority of Syrians who received a temporary residence permit in Germany due to the war. They are needed in their homeland,” the document says.
For those who do not leave voluntarily, deportation should be started “as soon as possible”, the CSU parliamentary group demands.
In the current draft, the CSU is also demanding a tougher stance on an even larger group of Ukrainian refugees. “We will insist that, in particular, able-bodied Ukrainian men contribute to the defense of their country,” the document says.
Another demand of the CSU: “We demand that all asylum seekers, regardless of their country of origin, use their assets to cover the costs of their stay in Germany.” This applies at least to Ukrainians who entered the country after April 2025 and are subject to the Law on Assistance to Asylum Seekers.
Regarding migration caused by poverty, the Christian Social Union (CSU) in the Bundestag is demanding that the rules be significantly strengthened. The federal government must further raise barriers to migration into the German welfare system to prevent welfare fraud.
Earlier it became known that Ukrainians who came to Germany after April 1, 2025, will not receive any more the so-called “Bürgergeld”, assistance given to those looking for work or to those whose income is not sufficient for self-sufficiency. German government had to approve corresponding changes in November.
One of the studies shows that more than half of Ukrainians have temporary protection not very satisfied with life in Germany.
