The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense reported the decision to denounce the Convention on Anti -Presidential Mines at the Regional level in March. In April, this step was supported by the Parliamentary Committee on Lithuania National Security and Defense.
The denomination of the Convention will come into force six months after the relevant decision is made.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense has previously stated that the security situation in the region has been much more complicated from the Convention, and the military threat to neighboring countries has intensified.
Recall that Lithuania ratified the Convention on the complete elimination of anti -personnel mines in 2003. In particular, the International Agreement prohibits the use, accumulation of inventories, production and transfer of anti -personnel mines.
The Convention came into force in March 1999. Ukraine signed it in December 1999, and in 2005 the document was ratified by the Verkhovna Rada. Meanwhile, the parties to the agreement are not 32 countries, including the US, China and Russia.
