He has many films to his credit, including “Loyalty”, which won the “Best Debut” prize at the 1965 Venice Film Festival.

This was reported in the Odesa branch of the National Union of Cinematographers. “After a long and serious illness, the legendary cinematographer Leonid Burlaka passed away. He was born in Odessa in October 1938 and, like a true Odessan, throughout his life he left his hometown only when he went to study or on a film expedition.” – says the department’s post on the social network.

As Burlaka’s colleagues note, he was fond of photography from childhood, at the age of 18 he already worked on television – as a lighting operator, cameraman’s assistant, cameraman, and since 1961, even before graduating from a professional university, at a film studio.

It is said that the man from Odessa received a “fantastic for anyone else” offer of creative work at “Mosfilm” along with a university diploma, but refused in a strict manner. He said that his city is Odesa.

“His name is in the credits of films that not only everyone knew in the past, but also remember and watch many times today, when dozens of years have passed. One “Era of mercy” (“The meeting place cannot be changed”) is worth … And “Loyalty”, which brought its creators and the studio the prize of the Venice International Film Festival… And “Farewell” and “Train in the distant August”… Four dozen rental tapes, two dozen television ones – this work is indicated in the creative card of the director of photography, Leonid Burlaka” , – the statement emphasizes.

Among his films are also “Musketeers 4 “A””, “The Boys Went to the Front”, “Magic Circle”, “Golden Shoes”, “Taken Alive”, “Two in the Sand”, “Until the Snow Falls… .”, “The Web”, “Without a collar” (the prize “For the best film” of the 5th Open Film Festival for Children and Youth), “How the Blacksmith Searched for Happiness” and others.

Farewell to Burlaka will be held at the Odesa Film Studio on Tuesday, September 17, at 12:00 p.m.
