The legendary Bob Bryan explained his strange decision in the match between USA and Australia

Legendary ex-tennis player Bob Bryanknown for his doubles performances and who is now the coach of the US tennis team, commented on his decision to release Ben Shelton and Tommy Paul for the deciding doubles match against Australia in place of Austin Krycek and Rajiv Ram:

“We had great doubles options, but I chose the firepower of the singles players to surprise them [суперників]. But it turned out to be a decision in favor of the opponent.

I made a decision in 15 minutes between singles and doubles. The idea was to surprise them.

I don’t regret doing that. The match between Kokkinakis and Shelton is one of the three best in Davis Cup history. It was that match that decided the fate of the confrontation.”

The USA team lost to Australia 1-2 in the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup and finished the tournament. The Australians will next play either against the Italians or against the Argentines.
