The largest EU countries are ready to take on the burden of financial and military support for Ukraine in the context of a possible reduction in US participation, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said after a meeting in Poland in the Weimar Triangle+ format.

According to the chief Polish diplomat, this meeting should be a clear symbol of European solidarity and unity with the Ukrainian people, because during it, in particular, options for strengthening support for Ukraine were discussed.

“We are advocating for the preservation and strengthening of sanctions against Russia until it leaves Ukraine and for covering funds for the reconstruction of Ukraine. Sanctions effectively weaken Russia’s military potential, isolating it economically. All existing gaps in the sanctions system should be closed. We have no illusions – Putin’s Russia remains one of the biggest threats to security, not only for Europe, but also for the world order,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland emphasized.

Sikorsky also noted that his colleagues agreed that Europe should take greater responsibility for its own security.

On November 19, negotiations regarding the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine will be held in Warsaw in the “Weimar Triangle+” format. It was noted that representatives of Germany, Poland and France, as well as Italy and Great Britain will be present at the meeting. Kaya Callas, who is to become the new high representative of the European Union for foreign policy and security policy, will also be present.

The “Weimar Triangle” is an informal international association of Germany, Poland and France, which emerged in 1991. Numerous meetings of foreign ministers and heads of state take place within the group. The goal of the group was to promote Poland on the way to joining the European Union and NATO. However, the association continues to exist even after the accession of the Republic of Poland to NATO (1999) and the EU (2004) and is one of the initiatives for the development of EU ideas.
