According to the press service of the Commissioner, in particular, they continue to accept citizens’ appeals and complaints about violations of the Law of Ukraine “On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as a State”, systematic monitoring of compliance with language legislation in the areas specified by law.
The Secretariat will inform that before the appointment of the Ombudsman will consider all the appeals and complaints of citizens, to direct letters within the competence of the need to eliminate violations and to inform about possible administrative liability in case of non -compliance with the law.
“At the same time, we note that, in accordance with the Law on State Language, new decisions on state control measures, as well as decisions on the use of administrative penalties can be made exclusively by the Ombudsman for the Protection of the State Language,” the statement reads.
According to the law, the submission of candidates for the position of linguistic Ombudsman ends three months before the end of the cadence of the current state language commissioner.
In early July, the Cabinet made a decision to dismiss Taras Kremin from the post of the State Language Commissioner from July 8 in connection with the expiration of the term of appointment. Kremen has been an Ombudsman since 2020.
The day before 22 deputies of the Verkhovna Rada appealed to the responsible institutions to re -submit a candidate of flint for a linguistic Ombudsman. Earlier, more than 30 Ukrainian cultural and public figures made a similar request.
Currently, the position of the State Language Commissioner remains vacant.
