The Kremlin confirmed that US President Donald Trump asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to refrain from striking Ukraine until February 1.

“Indeed, President Trump made a personal request to President (as the Kremlin calls the ruler of the Russian Federation) Putin to refrain for a week, until February 1, from carrying out strikes on Kyiv in order to create favorable conditions for negotiations,” said the spokesman of the Russian president, Dmytro Peskov.

At the same time, the Kremlin did not specify when exactly Trump addressed Putin with these requests.

On January 29, US President Donald Trump said that he had asked Russian leader Vladimir Putin not to attack Ukrainian cities for a week from an unspecified date.

Trump said he asked Putin to suspend strikes on Ukrainian cities because of the extreme cold. “And I personally asked President Putin not to shell Kyiv and other cities for a week. He agreed. And I must say that it was very nice,” said Trump.

Earlier, Russian z-bloggers stated that the higher command of the Russian army allegedly issued an order banning strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure and any objects in Kyiv and the region. According to reports, word of mouth is allegedly spreading among the Russian military that the ban will be in effect until February 3, 2025.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his comments to journalists on January 30 stated that the Ukrainian side did not discuss the energy truce directly with Russian representatives at the negotiations in Abu Dhabi. Zelensky also said that Ukraine would stop attacking energy targets in the Russian Federation if Russia did the same.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, Russia has been striking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Since the beginning of the fall of 2025, Russian forces have intensified their attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector.

After the last massive attacks by the Russian Federation, the energy system of Ukraine is under a state of emergency, the most difficult situation is in Kyiv and the Kyiv region.

The Security Service of Ukraine qualifies Russia’s strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure as crimes against humanity. The SBU previously noted that since the beginning of this year’s heating season, it has documented at least 256 air attacks by the Russian Federation on energy facilities and heat supply systems of Ukraine.
