This award is presented annually to the most outstanding player who plays in the championships of the countries of South and North America. In the current vote, 264 media experts from 16 countries expressed their opinion.
According to the results of the survey, de Arrascaeta confidently took the first place, receiving the support of 62.8% of respondents. The Uruguayan was significantly ahead of “Inter Miami” striker Lionel Messi (14.8%) and “Racing Avellaneda” forward Adrian Martinez (5%).
During the current season, de Arrascaeta together with “Flamengo” won four trophies at once: the Copa Libertadores, the Brazilian Serie A, the Super Cup of the country, as well as the championship of the state of Rio de Janeiro.
The midfielder was recognized as the most valuable football player of the Libertadores Cup, and in the national championship he became the leader of his team both in goals scored and in assists. It is noteworthy that Lionel Messi has never won this award.
