The journalist criticized the idea of selling medicine at gas stations / photo ua.depositphotos.comJournalist Serhii Lyamets criticized the initiative of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine regarding the possible granting of licenses for the sale of medicinal products to gas stations. According to him, such an idea raises serious doubts both from the point of view of safety and from the point of view of a real reduction in drug prices.
Lyamets noted that the argument of supporters of the initiative boils down to convenience for consumers, however, in practice, prices at gas stations are traditionally higher than in retail. In his opinion, this calls into question the very logic of “cheapening” of medicines in this sales format.
Separately, the journalist drew attention to the problem of drug quality control. He emphasized that the state already has weak mechanisms for controlling the circulation of medicines, and selling them at gas stations will only make it more difficult to check the storage conditions and compliance of the medicines with the standards.
Lyamets also questioned the very procedure of adopting such an initiative, in particular the lack of public discussion, the position of the pharmaceutical community and the reaction of the specialized committee of the Verkhovna Rada. According to him, similar decisions made on the eve of the holidays may pose risks for the health and safety of citizens and require an open professional discussion.
Earlier, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine reported on the preparation of changes that should expand the list of places of retail trade of over-the-counter medicines, in particular by allowing the sale of such medicines in the premises of gas stations.
