Bessent emphasized that the sanctions of the Donald Trump administration against the Russian oil giants Rosneft and Lukoil have already demonstrated their effectiveness. According to him, it was these measures that helped force the Russian Federation to sit down at the negotiating table.
The head of the Ministry of Finance also confirmed his participation in the meeting with Russian representatives, which took place on January 31 in Miami. The US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner also took part in the talks.

Democratic Senator Andy Kim said the involvement of Trump family members who do not hold official positions could create a conflict of interest.
