IAEA experts recorded damage to substations critical to the operation of Ukrainian nuclear power plants. They were destroyed as a result of the last attacks of the Russian Federation in November – December.
This is reported by the Ministry of Energy.
“Russia’s strikes on civilian energy facilities, in particular key substations, directly threaten the nuclear and radiation safety of the whole of Europe,” noted Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko.
While working at the specified facilities, IAEA experts accompanied by representatives of NEC “Ukrenergo”, NAEC “Energoatom” and the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspection of Ukraine documented damage to electrical substations.
Experts, in particular, could compare the intensity of blows and, as a result, damage to objects from past attacks.
The representatives of the Agency also recorded the results of the performed restoration works and the state of the carrying capacity of the electrical substations.
Most units of Ukrainian nuclear power plants reduced their power after the missile attack on December 13. Due to a new massive attack, Ukrenergo had to change the electricity blackout schedules, and the consumption limit was increased.
