Crimea, temporarily occupied by Russia, can be handed over to the UN mandate and prepared for a “fair referendum.” This opinion was expressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radoslav Sikorskyi, during a discussion at the 20th annual meeting of YES in Kyiv, writes Interfax-Ukraine.
He believes that Crimea is symbolically important for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, but also strategically important for Ukraine. Therefore, in his opinion, Ukraine and the Russian Federation will not be able to agree on peace without the demilitarization of Crimea.
If both countries want, a solution could be found, said the Polish minister.
“Have no legal consequences.” The EU has declared that it does not recognize the Russian “elections” in Crimea
“We could put it under a UN mandate with a mission to prepare a fair referendum after verifying who are legal residents and so on… And we could delay it for 20 years,” Sikorsky said.
