“I will say frankly: if the “little green men” ever cross our border, we will shoot at them. The consequences will be such, there is nothing to talk about. If Russia is not sure that we will really react, they can test us,” said the head of the Estonian Foreign Ministry.
He added that the same applies to the violation of Estonian airspace by Russian fighter jets, recalling the incident on September 19.
“If we see that Russian fighter jets pose a threat to our security, we will shoot them down. This is a red line, and Putin must remember that. He must know that this is NATO territory, and the consequences of aggression will not go unpunished,” Tsakhkna emphasized.
The minister also emphasized that Europe “absolutely cannot trust Putin”, and this especially applies to countries that share a common border with Russia.
The President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel did not rule out that in the future Europe will react more harshly to Russian provocations and may one day shoot down a Russian drone or plane.
It will be recalled that in December the summit of the eight countries of the “eastern flank” of NATO, which have sea or land borders with Russia and Belarus, was held in Finland for the first time.
It was also reported that the eight countries of the “eastern flank” expect special defense funds from Brussels in the next long-term EU budget, arguing that this is in the interests of common security.
