The former head of the SBU of the Kharkiv region was detained on suspicion of an attempt to seize power during the war and disinformation to subordinates. The court chose a preventive measure for him in the form of detention for 60 days, the Office of the Prosecutor General reports.
“The suspect used his official position, misinformed his subordinates and initiated the dissemination of known false information, which could destabilize the situation in the frontline region under martial law,” the department said.
On December 26, the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv chose a preventive measure for him in the form of detention for a period of 60 days, i.e. until February 22, 2026 inclusive. The pre-trial investigation and operational support are carried out by the employees of the State Bureau of Investigation.
If the guilt of the former employee is proven, he faces up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property. In addition, prosecutors are already supporting a public indictment against him in the Shevchenkiv District Court of Kyiv in the case of high treason, willful disobedience of an order and voluntary abandonment of a place of service during the war.
“These actions were committed during a special period, during martial law, and created a real threat to the continuous functioning of the state authorities and the defense system of Ukraine,” the Prosecutor General’s Office added.
