The former commander of the Russian Federation in Ukraine Sergey Surovikin was found in Algeria

Former commander of a united group of troops in the area of ​​the so-called “special military operation”, Army General Sergey Surovika is now working in Algeria, reported on May 12, the Russian edition “Kommersant” with reference to the leading telegram channels.

The channels paid attention to the photos posted on May 9 by the Russian Embassy in Algeria – they have Surovikin.

The name of the general in the message of the embassy does not appear, but he is named after the position – “Head of a group of Russian military specialists”.

Surovkin ceased to appear in the public space after Yevgeny Prigogine’s rebellion in the summer of 2023. In information, there were rumors that the general could know about the rebellion in advance, and after him was arrested. This was not officially confirmed.

Surovika commanded a united group of Russian troops in Ukraine from October 2022 to January 2023. In particular, under his leadership, the Russian military retreated from the west bank of the Dnieper, leaving Kherson. Until August 2023, Surovkin remained the head of Russia’s airspace forces.

In February 2025, a member of the State Duma Committee on Defense Viktor Sobolev said that Surovika was “working as a military adviser” in one of the countries of Africa.
