The film 20 Days in Mariupol won the Best Current Affairs Documentary and Best Cinema Documentary nominations.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, this year’s award winners cover a wide range of topics. In addition to the film about Ukraine, awards were given to films about a Turkish singer who survived an attack during a talent show, life with a mental disorder, the Muslim faith in Great Britain, the power of sports and a Korean film club.
British journalist Stacey Dooley, known for her social documentaries for BBC Three on child labor and the situation of women in developing countries, also received the Grierson Trustees’ Award.
