According to him, funds for payments to Roschyna’s family were not included in the budget at first, and the search for a mechanism for compensation lasted several months. The program of the Ministry of Social Policy for employees of critical infrastructure facilities was considered first, but it was not suitable, since not all media have the appropriate status, and Roschyna herself worked as a freelancer.
Subsequently, the Ministry of Finance found a separate mechanism for making payments through the State Television and Radio Committee. “It turns out that it is possible without manual mode. And the money was also found. 302,800 hryvnias will be paid to the family of the deceased by the end of the year. And next year, payments will be systematic,” Yurchyshyn stressed.
Prime Minister Yuliya Svyridenko previously reported that the government is starting to pay out payments in case of death or injury of journalists while performing their professional duties. Yurchyshyn thanked state institutions and officials, in particular the State Television and Radio Committee and Yulia Svyridenko personally, for finding opportunities to implement a policy of support for injured journalists and their families.
Viktoriya Roschyna disappeared on August 3, 2023 in the occupied territory while performing journalistic tasks. In May 2024, Russia admitted for the first time that it was holding her captive. On October 10, the family was informed of her death during the staging from Taganrog to Moscow, and the journalist’s body was returned to Ukraine at the end of February 2025.
It will be recalled that journalist Victoria Roshchyna, who was killed in Russian captivity, was awarded the Order of Freedom.
