The ex-first racket was injured at the exhibition tournament and will miss AO-2025

Former first racket of the world Simona Halep (Romania, WTA 877) will not play at the WTA 250 tournament in Auckland and will miss the Australian Open 2025. The Romanian was given a wild card by the organizers for this competition.

The tennis player announced this on her Instagram. Halep suffered knee and shoulder injuries at an exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi, UAE:

“I want to wish everyone happy holidays and tell you about a small update. After the exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi, I felt pain in my knee and shoulder again. After much discussion with the team, we decided it would be wise to delay the start of my season.

This is not what I would like. But I thank the organizers of the Auckland and Australian Open tournaments for the wild card and I’m sorry I won’t be able to use them this time.

I will rest and prepare for the next tournament in Cluj-Napoca, where I can’t wait to play in front of the amazing Romanian fans,” the Romanian wrote.
