The European Union will impose sanctions against the politician Andrei Derkach and Shahist Andrei Karyakin

The 16th package of sanctions against Russia due to its full-scale invasion of Ukraine will enter several dozen new individuals and legal entities. This is evidenced by the project of the document at the disposal of Radio Liberty.

There are two persons known in Ukraine. This is Andriy Derkach-the 57-year-old son of the former SBU chairman of the Presidency of Kuchma Leonid Derkach, a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of many convocations (from 1998 to 2023). In January 2023, Derkach, Jr. was deprived of Ukrainian citizenship, is now a senator from the Russian Astrakhan region, a member of the Committee of Security and Defense of the Council of the Federation of the Russian Federation. In Ukraine, it is wanted and is a person involved in special court proceedings.

Since September 2020, US sanctions have been imposed against him – because of attempts to influence the election of the United States President in 2020.

The second among the well -known people in Ukraine is the once youngest Grasmaster in the world, a native of Simferopol Sergey Karyakin. The chess player in 1990 in 2009 changed his sports citizenship to Russian, since 2014 he publicly called for an aggressive war, justified and recognized the legitimate armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

Also in the new package of sanctions will be expanded, including at the expense of China and the DPRK, the number of persons and organizations that will be subject to sanctions due to a full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine. Additional measures will be implemented against Russian means of information involved in a misinformation campaign coordinated by the Russian authorities.
