Details: When asked about the situation in Georgia, Borrell confirmed that the EU “will send a mission, a political mission, to Georgia to carefully study what happened.”

He also reminded that the European Union has already taken measures against the background of the anti-democratic turn of the Georgian authorities, freezing or canceling funding under programs to support the government of Georgia.

“We have canceled about 120 million euros of support to the Georgian government and are going to direct this support to programs that directly help non-governmental organizations and Georgian society,” said the top EU diplomat.

The mass media previously wrote that the EU special representative in the South Caucasus may receive a wider mandate in view of the development of events in Georgia, and the OSCE Bureau for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights will inform European officials about the situation.

It will be recalled that the opposition parties in Georgia do not recognize the results of the elections held at the end of October and emphasize that they were falsified. Last weekend, the Central Election Commission of Georgia approved the results of the elections, in which, according to the official results, the ruling party “Georgian Dream” won.

The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, responding to the CEC’s final report on the results of the parliamentary elections on October 26, said that “the elections did not take place” and she will contest the announced results.

Recently, there have been statements in the EU that if the “Georgian Dream” does not change its anti-democratic course, then Georgia will have no chance of rapprochement with the European Union.
