The European Investbank will provide funds to the Ukrainian company Ukrhydroenergo. The corresponding agreement on the first tranche was signed on July 10 in Rome in the fields of the URC2025 Conference on the Conference of Ukraine. The total loan amount is 200 million euros, which will be provided under two or more financial agreements.

The European Investment Bank provides Ukrhydroenergo credit resources for the targeted restoration and modernization of Ukrainian hydroelectric power plants. Some of the funds are planned to be directed to the restoration of three hydroelectric power plants that have been damaged as a result of Russian terrorist attacks. The rest – for urgent emergency work in case of possible new damage to other objects of Ukrhydroenergo.

This was made possible by jointly coordinated work with the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economy, as well as the Ministry of Energy, which provided comprehensive support and facilitated the conclusion of a loan agreement with the European Investment Bank.

Obtaining this tranche will be a powerful impulse to continue the systematic operation of the company to restore lost capacity and enhance the stability of hydropower facilities in the conditions of ongoing military aggression. What is critical for the stability and sustainability of the Ukrainian power system.

The provision of this loan was made possible by the financial guarantee of the European Commission within the new Ukraine Facility Program. This EU flagship program with a budget of € 50 billion (2024-2027) is intended to provide stable support for the restoration, reconstruction and modernization of Ukraine.

The EUB warranty agreement has allowed the EIB to undertake to invest significant funds in Ukrainian energy and other critical projects, despite military risks. The credit for Ukrhydroenergo has become one of the first projects within Ukraine Facility, and its successful implementation creates an important precedent.

“The restoration of Ukraine’s energy stability is a key element of its reconstruction. Thanks to this loan of 120 million euros for Ukrhydroenergo, we contribute to the restoration of critically important hydropower infrastructure, which provides millions of Ukrainians with clean and reliable electricity. It is not just an investment in energy security is investment in people, in stability and sustainable development of Ukraine, ”said Vice president of the European Investment Bank Teresa Chervinsk.

For the first time in the history of Ukrhydroenergo receives a loan under the guarantees of the European Union. It is an important loan of trust in Ukrhydroenergo as a reliable partner capable of acting effectively even in war. We care about the continuity of all processes – from daily management to the implementation of strategic projects.

Ukrhydroenergo is grateful to the European Investment Bank for many years of fruitful cooperation and the continued support of Ukraine in the most difficult times.

Reference: The company has a long and successful experience of partnership with the European Investment Bank. Since 2014, contracts aimed at reconstruction of hydraulic units have been implemented in cooperation with the EIB. In December 2023, the company received another tranche of 133 million euros within the large -scale project “Rehabilitation of Hydroelectric Stations”. Initially, the initiative was focused on the modernization of equipment and improving the efficiency of hydropower facilities. However, in the conditions of a full -scale war, in agreement with the bank, funding is also aimed at the repair of damaged hydro -force and hydromechanical equipment and the restoration of capacity lost due to massive missile attacks by the Russian Federation.
