“We understand that the investigations are ongoing, and we greatly respect these investigations, which testify that the anti-corruption authorities in Ukraine are doing their job,” Pinho said, commenting on the search of Yermak’s apartment.
She emphasized that this fact “directly shows that anti-corruption bodies really exist and are allowed to function.”
The spokesman of the European Commission, Guillaume Mercier, also added that “the fight against corruption is a key element for the country’s accession to the EU.”
“This requires sustained efforts and a strong anti-corruption capacity. This is a key element that we are also looking at in our enlargement report that was published a few weeks ago. So we will continue to monitor the situation very closely,” Mercier emphasized.
