“The European Commission noted that Hungary has been using the current exemption from EU sanctions on the import of Russian oil since 2022 and can continue to supply it without restrictions. This statement was made against the background of the decision of the United States to temporarily postpone the introduction of its own restrictions for Budapest.”, — write: www.pravda.com.ua

“The purpose of this exception is to ensure security of supply for these two countries. This means that both Slovakia and Hungary can, in accordance with this exception, in accordance with the sanctions package, import Russian oil,” she added.
Ikonen reminded that the EU is developing plans to cut off supplies of Russian gas and oil until the end of 2027, which will be in effect for an indefinite period, while the sanctions – particularly from the US – are of a temporary nature.
Separately, another spokeswoman for the European Commission, Paula Pinho, added that there are rumors from the US and Hungary conflicting messages regarding exemption from sanctions.
“So we need to know more before we can say more about it,” Pinho added.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán arrived on November 7 to see Donald Trump. As a result of the meeting, it became known that the USA granted Hungary exemption from American sanctions for the use of Russian oil and gas.
