According to Callas, there is a “plan B” in the European Union to maintain economic pressure on Russia if Hungary blocks the continuation of EU economic sanctions in July.

At the same time, she stressed that Brussels is still focused on all Member States adhere to a single position.

The EU diplomacy head added that negotiations with Washington and other international partners are currently underway to ensure the sanctions regime against Russia.

The media previously reported that the EU discussed the option of adopting sanctions by individual Member States for bypassing Hungarian veto: For example, Belgium may issue a royal decree on freezing Russian state assets in Belgium worth € 190 billion.
